The following are the steps you can take to try and dry an iPhone with water damage.
Step 1 Get the iPhone out of water ASAP and power it off

To avoid inflicting even more damage on the device, the first thing you should do is get it out of water as fast as you can. If the device hasn’t already been powered off, power it off and don’t try to power it back on at any moment. Powering on the device may cause short circuiting on some essential parts of the device.


Step 2 Dry the Wet iPhone

The next thing you should do is try to dry the moisture on the iPhone as much as you can. One of the nest ways to do this is to wrap the device in a towel and let it soak up the moisture.


Step 3 Find a Hardware Store with DampRid

Next, try and find a hardware store in your locality that carries DampRid. It may not be very easy to locate one without your iPhone but you can borrow a friend’s device or search online.


Step 4 Use Silica Gel

As a drying agent, Silica gel is one of the ways to get your device dried as quickly as possible. Pack the iPhone in a sealable plastic bag and then add packets of Silica gel to the bag. The more you can find, the better. You can find Silica gel from arts and crafts stores.

Most people recommend uncooked rice as a way to dry out the iPhone but we don’t recommend that you use uncooked rice since it doesn’t always work. Tests have shown that Rice is an ineffective drying agent as compared to oatmeal and Silica gel. It may even be a better idea to just leave the phone out in the open to dry naturally rather than trying to submerge it in a drying agent.


Step 5 Open all the Ports

One of the most effective ways to get your phone to dry is to open all the ports. We must warn however, that you should only do this if you are confident that you can successfully do DIY repairs on your iPhone. If you can, unscrew the bottom screws to access the interior. Just keep in mind that doing this may void the warranty you already have and that DIY work may damage the iPhone even further. Do it only if you know what you’re doing and if you are willing to take the risk.


Step 6 Attempt to Switch it on

Once you are certain the device is as dry as can be, try turning it on and see what happens. You may be lucky and it turns on and works normally again.
