Horrifying MacBook Pro Battery Explosion Caught on Camer

We have witnessed a fair share of battery debacles on gadgets, with the recent one being on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. A Reddit user by the name White Panda uploaded a video wherein a 2015 Retina 15-inch MacBook Pro has exploded and caught fire. Video below shows the MacBook Pro lying on the ground after the explosion.

White Panda explained how toxic fumes filled up his home and triggered fire alarms. Thankfully no one was harmed, but the house did sustain some damages. He claims that the MacBook Pro caught fire during normal use and the laptop was not subject to any modification.

Yesterday afternoon my MacBook Pro exploded during normal use. It was on my lap, plugged in, and suddenly started to spew smoke out both sides. I quickly placed it on the floor where it popped, the smoke increased, and it caught fire.

The user explained how he visited the local Apple store and was informed that nothing could be done for the next 24 hours. The laptop was then placed in a fire-proof safe. The folks at the Apple Store assured that they would get back to White Panda within 24 hours with a plan/update detailing the future steps.

When White Panda didn’t get a call back in the next 24 hours he revisited the Apple Store. This time around he was told that the matter had been “escalated” and he should hear within five days.

They did not call. I reached out today and was told it had been “escalated” and I should hear something within FIVE days. I produce music for a living – FIVE days without my computer is unacceptable. It seemed like a worthwhile piece of information to share with the world, so there you have it.

White Panda also mentions that both the trackpad and the display had recently been replaced, however, the repair was carried out by Apple store and no third party was involved. We are also not sure whether or not White Panda was issued a standby laptop. "The pedometer proves it!" I proudly brandished my phone to my more-than-skeptical audience, who realized that yes, if the calculations are accurate, I did indeed travel 32 kilometers. It's worth noting that the party was in a suburb very (very) far from the capital, three kilometers from the station, so I had reached 5 kilometers before I even walked the dancefloor.
A fun, alternative use for the pedometer

This use of the pedometer has even become a game between me and my friends. Just as the Nike Run Club can put you in competition and allow you to motivate yourself, the pedometer is now the referee of our evenings. "Ahhhh last night I danced more than you Juliet!", proudly boats a friend who shows me that she, unlike me, had not taken a break from dancing to chat with friends from 1:00 am to 2:30 am.

Besides, if I've covered so many kilometers, it must have been when this artist I love so much was playing. However, I do wonder if these figures are really reliable. They indicate a trend, that's for sure, but I find it surprising that a friend reaches 43 kilometers on his Huawei, while I'm "only" at 32 kilometers on my iPhone, yet we spent the whole evening together. Certainly, he dances more intensely, but still!

AirPlay 2 and TV App Now Available on Samsung Smart TVs

With the launch of iOS 12.3, both AirPlay 2 and the new Apple TV app are available on compatible Smart TVs, Samsung announced today.




All 2019 Samsung Smart TVs and select 2018 TV models with a firmware update will be able to access Apple TV channels and iTunes movies and TV shows through the TV app and will support AirPlay 2. Samsung says that the TV app offers content in more than 100 countries, while AirPlay 2 is available in 176 countries.






On compatible Samsung TVs with the Smart TV platform, users are able to select the Apple TV app icon to access their Apple content. With the Channels feature in the Apple TV app, Samsung users can subscribe to services like HBO, Showtime, Starz, and more, and watch content from those services directly in the Apple TV app.




Samsung users will also have access to more than 100,000 TV shows and movies to buy or rent from iTunes, including content that's available in 4K HDR.

"For the last decade, Samsung has been at the forefront of offering the broadest selection of content available to consumers on our Smart TV platform," said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "As the first TV manufacturer to integrate the Apple TVapp on a Smart TV platform, Samsung continues to offer our customers incredible value and access to the Apple TV app experience on the largest screens available today."

The TV app available on Samsung Smart TVs will allow Apple customers who are already in the Apple ecosystem to access their previously purchased content without needing to have an Apple TV set-top box, which is a first.




All iTunes content and other content from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac can also be AirPlayed right to a Samsung TV for the first time, making it easier to get content from Apple devices to the TV. Samsung TVs compatible with AirPlay 2 and the TV app are listed below:

- Samsung QLED 4K Q6, Q7, Q8, Q9 Series (2018 & 2019)

Samsung says that the Apple TV app will "work seamlessly" with other Smart TV services, including Universal Guide, Bixby, and Search for a consistent experience across Samsung's platform.




Samsung is the only TV manufacturer that's getting the TV app at the current time, but other smart TVs are gaining AirPlay 2 support. It's likely we'll be hearing about AirPlay 2 compatibility from Vizio, LG, and Sony now that iOS 12.3 with AirPlay 2 support and the new Apple TV app has officially launched.
