As far as I can tell, in blogging you can become an authority figure in a few ways, but it is most frequently a combination of these. In my case that was defitely a combo and I will leave links for the various facets.
- Demonstrate expertise — Producing content about the given niche, that resonates for others. And having the ability to withstand questions and criticism on the topic from others. Cotton 101 page on my blog

- Branding — presenting yourself in a certain way online, naming yourself and blog can result in defacto authority. I found this out by chance as I set up a twitter account years ago with the name JPlovesCOTTON. It has resulted in people associating me as an expert in the natural fiber.
